The Magic of Summer at Home
There’s something undeniably magical about summertime. Maybe it’s because, here in the north, it’s the one season where the weather feels just right. Or maybe it's the shift away from structure—school days, tight routines—in favor of a slower, freer rhythm that reminds us of childhood summers.
For us, summer means long dinners with friends that stretch into golden evenings, barefoot runs through the sprinkler, unhurried family walks, and the comforting scent of the grill wafting through the air on Sunday afternoons.
When it comes to our homes, summer invites a gentle reset. We tuck away the heavy knits and dark tones of winter and early spring, making room for breezy linens and fresh, beachy scents. Think coconut, citrus, sea salt—anything that calls to mind a coastal escape or a sun-soaked Italian getaway.
If you're craving a few simple ways to bring that summer feeling inside, here are five easy tips to refresh your home and create corners that celebrate the light and warmth of the season.

1. Bring in Summer Scents
There’s no faster way to shift the mood of a space than with fragrance. At Poiema Home Co (a Bloom Haus candle line), our summer collection—launching in July—features notes like lime, lemon, and sea salt, designed to evoke memories of sun, sand, and sea. Each candle is hand-poured with toxin-free ingredients so you can feel good about burning them in your home.
Style tip: Create a small summer vignette by grouping a few candles on a tray with a seasonal bloom, a seashell, or a favorite found object from your travels.
2. Swap in Light Throws

Say goodbye to the heavy textures of colder months. Lightweight linen or gauze throws in white, soft peach, or sandy neutrals are perfect for layering without the weight.
One of my favorite ways to style a throw is draped over my reading chair by the window. I love curling up there in the quiet morning with coffee and my journal—those small, sacred moments before the house wakes up.

3. Style with Wildflowers or Citrus-Inspired Arrangements
Fresh flowers are an easy way to breathe life into a space. I’m always on the lookout at our local farmers market or Trader Joe’s for something cheerful. For something longer-lasting, try a dried arrangement. Look for bunches that include faux oranges, eucalyptus, or wildflowers. Styled in a simple ceramic vase, they add charm and elevate any summer shelf or dining table.
4. Add Woven or Natural Accents

Summer is the season of texture—just the right kind. Rattan trays, seagrass baskets, and woven containers bring a relaxed, coastal feel into your home. Bonus: they work just as well outdoors as they do inside, especially for impromptu picnics or porch hangs.

5. Incorporate Meaningful Art
One of our favorite things to do while traveling is explore local art. The pieces we bring home tell our story—more personal and layered than anything pulled from a catalog.
For summer, look for art in sun-washed tones or natural wood frames that create a feeling of calm—perfect for bedrooms or bathrooms. Or, if you're feeling inspired, try creating your own piece: abstract painting in soft colors, a woven wall hanging, or a collection of pressed botanicals.
Summer is a time to lighten up—not just in our schedules, but in our homes too. With just a few intentional changes, you can create a space that invites you to slow down, savor, and soak in all the goodness this season has to offer.
Let the sunshine in. 🌿☀️
