DIY Botanical Shell Dish: A Delicate Nature Inspired Craft

DIY Botanical Shell Dish: A Delicate Nature Inspired Craft

There is something magical about transforming simple materials into something beautiful - and this DIY botanical shell dish is the perfect example. Whether you're looking to add a handmade touch to your home, create a meaningful gift, or simply enjoy a slow, creative afternoon, this craft is equal parts art and intention.

Inspired by the gentle curve of a seashell and the whimsy of botanical prints, this small dish is ideal for holding jewelry or other treasures. Here is how you can make your own:

Materials

-sea shell (I picked mine up at Hobby Lobby)

-napkin in a pretty pattern

-paint brush

-mod podge

-gold leaf

Instructions

  1. Separate your napkin. You'll end up with a piece that has the print on it and a solid white piece.
  2. Select the part of your napkin you want displayed in your shell.
  3. Cover the shell with mod podge.
  4. Lay the printed napkin over the shell and gently press it so it sticks to the mod podge
  5. Gently press the napkin down
  6. Dip your brush in the mod podge and gently brush over your napkin making sure to get all the way to the edge.
  7. Let your shell dry
  8. Gently pull away the extra napkin that hangs over the edge of your shell. This should be pretty easy as long as you applied mod podge all the way to the edge.
  9. With a smaller brush, gently paint around the edge of your shell with gold paint.

Style Tips

  • display it on a bedside table, bathroom vanity or entryway
  • Use it to hold rings, paperclips or dried blooms
  • Pair it with a handmade candle or a dried flower bundle as a sweet gift set
